Adult ages 16+

Join us for this two-hour intensive workshop where Dwight Hwang, Southern California based artist, will introduce you to Japanese gyotaku printmaking an art form that uses real fish to create striking printed images.

Hwang will begin with a discussion of the history of gyotaku, and a demonstration of his own developed practice of preparing and printing with sea life. All participants, working individually or in pairs, will be then guided through the creation of several unique, frame-ready gyotaku  prints, using washi paper, sumi ink, and, yes, fish.*

This workshop has been developed alongside the Positive Fragmentation exhibition of print artists, emphasizing the variety and sophistication of printmaking as an artistic medium worldwide.

*Fish used for this workshop have been sustainably sourced through collaboration with California wildlife officials.
